“This One Time At..” is designed to create a brief feature on a moment in another student’s life. This week, we made a feature on one of our fellow freshmen.
A current freshman at San Bernardino High School, Selena Castellanos, dances in a professional group called Ballet Folklorico Nueva Esperanza. On October 13, 2019 she had a show in Claremont, California.
“I had to dance the regions Yucatan, Chiapas, and Jalisco. I performed the first region fine, but I suffer from an anxiety disorder so I was out of breath. For the second region, I danced a solo with my partner Julian and then I had to go back on stage to dance three more songs with the girls. Then I was going on stage for the second song, I was shaking but I didn’t think too much of it. Once I got off stage I was so weak that I wasn’t able to walk. They sat me down because I was shaking still. My mom and the other instructor gave me water, soda, candy, and put rubbing alcohol all on my nose and back. It took about fifteen minutes to calm me down. Afterwards, I couldn’t really move or talk much. It was honestly one of the scariest moments in my life.”
