Sarai Vivar hopes to share her passions and connect with others this school year. She is a dedicated player on the girls tennis team, and has a strong passion to help her community by volunteering at a local church. Tyro Times spoke with her and learned more about her goals for the future.  

Taelyn Ford: What do you like to do in your free time? 

SV: During my freetime, I really enjoy watching movies and listening to music. I also love spending quality time, hanging out, and doing activities with my family and friends. 

TF: What makes you like tennis? 

SV: To be honest, what I like most about tennis is feeling the positive energy of my teammates and sharing the excitement of winning as a team.  

TF: What is a memory from helping out at a church? 

SV: If I had to pick a memory from helping out at the church, it would definitely be when my friends and I were giving out cookies laughing and just having a great time.   

TF: What makes you want to be a nurse? 

SV: My sister working in the medical field inspired me and I think helping kids would be something I enjoy.    

TF:What’s something people don’t know about you that you would want them to?

SV: Something I would like people to know about me is that I’m a very sweet, calm, kind person.  

TF: What makes you different from other contestants? 

SV:  I think my personality, energy, and the way I handle things makes me different from others. 

TF: What/who helps you get through hard times? 

SV: I would say both my family and friends help me get through hard times just depending on what I’m going through and who I need. 

TF: What made you want to go run for Miss Cardinal?

SV: I thought it would be a fun senior activity to do and my sister convinced me. 

TF: Besides becoming a nurse, what is a big dream or goal you have in life after you graduate 

SV: I dream to travel the world and maybe one day have the opportunity to volunteer for the United Nations Children Fund. 

TF: What is your most memorable game and why? 

SV: My most memorable game was probably the one my junior year where I played my first varsity match with my friend. We won and just all had fun. 

TF: Has playing tennis changed you as a person and how?  

SV: Yes it changed me in a way to learn to lose but not let it affect me, instead motivate me to work harder   

TF: What was the scariest thing about running for Miss Cardinal?

SV: I would say the public speaking, being on stage. It’s nerve-wracking having to have so many eyes on me, yet I was able to build the confidence to do it.

TF: Looking back, what is something you would tell your freshman self?

SV: I would tell her to enjoy everything as time goes by fast so appreciate all the good moments and never lose sight of what’s important (your future). 

TF: How do you balance playing tennis, schoolwork, and getting ready for the pageant?  

SV: By having time management with dedication and using my time wisely not wasting a second to get everything done.

TF: How did volunteering at a church help the community?

SV: It helped our church community to feed people and overall help make it better for kids or adults.
