Jessica Aguirre is one of the two salutatorians from the class of 2018. She is 18 years old and takes pride in graduating from San Bernardino High School. She is involved in Sobobans, Renaissance, Alma’s, AVID Club, and Power to Change. She recalls that as an incoming freshman four years ago, she was excited to come to SBHS. Her sisters were SBHS graduates and she wanted to continue that legacy. She feels that Cardinal City is wrongly seen as a “bad school” but that people don’t see that there are a lot of people who do care – about the school and the students.
While she’d describe herself as sarcastic and smart, Rodolfo, her boyfriend, and Destiny, her best friend, say she’s funny, very kind, and cares for others. Rodolfo adds that he admires the patience she has with people while Destiny values her heart, saying that Jessica is always there for her when she is having a bad day. Jessica’s desire and ability to help others is reflected in her plans for her future as she intends to major in sociology and obtain a masters in social work in order to be a successful social worker. She says that she’ll eventually go back to school to become a lawyer and help those with immigration issues.
As she leaves San Bernardino High School and moves onto college, she has advice for students still at SBHS: take honors and AP classes and try your best to get good grades.
