Leah Amaya is a senior at San Bernardino high school. She is a young lady who wants to become a nurse and help other people. Leah would like to work as much as she can so she will not have money problems.

Yahily Estrada: Tell me a little bit about yourself.
Leah Amaya: I’m a senior in high school. I wanted to go to school to become a nurse. The college I’m going to go to is called Cabarrus College of Health Science. I have a dog. I have two siblings, an older sister and a younger brother. I’m the middle child, for obvious reasons.
YE: What is something that motivates you in life?
LA: Seeing my mom struggle when I was younger, it just made me want to get a good job and have a stable career in life. Do not have to worry about money troubles once I get the job.
YE: What is something that you feel and feel comfortable that comes easy to you?
LA: Working on my own most definitely. Yeah. I feel like that’s easiest because I don’t have to listen to everybody else.
YE: Do you feel like you work better? Do you feel like your work is better and has better grades than working with others?
LA: Most definitely. Yeah. I feel like if I work by myself, I could do stuff I want and I’ll have to worry about it. Isn’t it you know, in their opinion or whatever other people’s opinions are.
YE: The word “independent,” what does it mean to you?
LA: It’s being able to be successful by yourself and not having to rely on anybody or anything.
YE: If you could choose one thing about yourself to change, what would it be? And why?
LA: My height, I want to be taller.
YE: Are there any sports that interest you?
LA: I like watching basketball. I don’t know if I played.
YE: If you were able to choose somebody to talk to again, whether they’re alive or dead, who would it be?
LA: Maybe like Malcolm X. Why? His opinions. Why he did what he did and also Bob Marley.
YE: Throughout your high school years, what is something you regret and you would like to go back to change?
LA: Junior year I regret not taking the first semester that seriously. And maybe freshman year I was a little disrespectful person because I thought it was cool. I kind of regret that because it burned some bridges with teachers or they just kind of looked at me like they expected more from me.
YE: If those teachers were here, would you apologize to them and do things better?
LA: Yeah, I would apologize. It wasn’t right for me to do that. And I was just young and dumb. I sincerely apologize because that’s not me as a person.
YA: If you were able to have a superpower, what would it be?
LA: I’d want to be able to control things like multiverses and stuff like that. Or telepathy. I would like to know what people are talking about or thinking about.
