Mother. Mom. Mama. Mommy. Ma. Madre.
Whatever name we use, or however they became our mom, these women hold a special place in our hearts.

My mom is awesome because she keeps her cool even though she takes care of so many monsters! 😂 My favorite memory of her is when she was doing my hair for my eighth grade dance. She was so happy with the way it came out that she was jumping up and down. ~ Jasmine Toolan, 9 Ms. Somers with her mom and her twins – who are now seniors this year! My mom is awesome because she doesn’t seem to stop loving anyone. She even loves other people’s kids. ~ Victoria Rodriguez, 11 One of my favorite memories with my mom was when my sister and I surprised her with a girls’ night out at a Carrie Underwood concert. I’ve never seen her let loose and “sing” out loud like that before…or since! It took all the next day for our voices to recover! 🤣 ~ Mrs. Schmidt In late January, when my grandmother passed, everyone in the family was so lost without her being there for them. To help them get back on their feet and moving forward in life, she offered for everyone that lived with her, which was MANY people, to come to our house and spend all day there for two months no matter how stressful it was at the time for her. Even though she knows something will hurt her, she can be selfless enough to put everyone before her to keep them all happy. ~ Samantha Valdivia, 9 This is my mother Dr. Lorrie Hinkleman with four of her grandchildren. I am very proud of her. She went back to school in her thirties and earned her Doctorate in Public Health/Nutrition and then directed the WIC program in San Bernardino County for over 20 years. She is an extremely hard working, but also fun mom. She spontaneously pulled us out of school (shhhh!) to go to the beach or skiing. I love her very much and hope that I can be as good of a parent as she was for me. ~ Mr. Hinkleman My favorite thing my mom has done for me is being there with me and helping the most when I had all my surgeries. ~ Lisa Esquibel, 9 My mom is awesome because she adopted me and my sister and gave us a second chance to reach our future. ~ Michael Torres, 9 My mom is awesome because she showed me what unconditional love ❤️ is like and now I get to love 💕my children as much as she loved me. ~ Mrs. Robles Alvarez A favorite memory…wow there are a lot. My mom never missed any athletic game that I played in from when I started at 5 to finishing high school. However, she also was very vocal. There was one game where there were a total of 3 fans. My mom, my dad, and my friend. You could hear the lights in the gym. Throughout the game, you could hear my mom’s comments and often criticism of the way we were playing. The other special memory was when she was taking me to a tennis tournament and in the rush to get me to the court on time, she drove as close to the court as possible, running over the curb in the process. Now that is determination! ~ Mr. Akahoshi My family has a new tradition on Mother’s Day over the past 6 years. My youngest daughter was Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and joined a Diabetic Foundation called the “PADRE Foundation.” This foundation has a big fashion show for the Type 1 children who actually model and perform in this show every year on Mother’s Day weekend. Family and providing support for one another is our tradition. ~ Mrs. Rees My mom is the best! I moved to CA from Minnesota about 18 years ago, and leaving my mom was so hard. I told my mom it would only be for 5 years. As that 5 years came and went, my mom said if I didn’t move back before she retired, she would move to me. And she did 6 years ago! I am so happy to have her with me again! ~ Ms. Holm A couple of years ago, we found out that my mom has Alzheimer’s. Although she is still in the early stages of the disease, it’s been tough watching this once smart, quick-witted woman who raised us alone after my parents’ divorce slowly lose her memory, asking the same questions over and over or making the same statements repeatedly. Last fall, my sisters and I decided to take my mom to Breckenridge, CO for a girls only trip before a trip like this might not be possible. We had a wonderful time going for walks around the quaint town, wine-tasting, and shopping for little trinkets. There were many laughs, and we all had a great time! This will be a memory that I will cherish for the rest of my years. ~ Mrs. Borucki My favorite thing my does for us is cook her food! My favorite memory was when we both had time to go the movies together. ~ Jasmine Ornelas, 9 Our Mother’s Day tradition is to go to Magic Mountain. ~ Mrs. Wilson
