Thirty-three of our Cardinal seniors are eligible to receive the Golden State Seal Merit Diploma. Since 1997, the State Board of Education and the State Superintendent of Public Instruction have awarded this honor to students who demonstrate mastery of at least six subject areas of high school curriculum. For meeting the eligibility requirements, these 33 students will receive diplomas affixed with a gold, embossed seal and their transcripts will have a black and white seal to signify their achievement.
The requirements for the Golden State Seal Merit Diploma are:
- English – Students must have earned at least one of the following:
- A grade of B+ or better in a single course for both semesters completed in grade 9, 10, or 11
- A 3 or 4 on the SBAC in ELA
- Math – Students must have earned at least one of the following:
- A grade of B+ or better in a single course for both semesters completed in grade 9, 10, or 11
- A 3 or 4 on the SBAC in Math
- Science – Students must have earned a grade of B+ or better in a single course for both semesters completed in grade 9, 10, or 11
- U.S. History – Students must have earned a grade of B or better upon completion of U.S. History
- Two additional subject areas:
- Any additional qualifying grade or score listed above, earned for the subject of ELA or Math
- A grade of B or above upon the completion of high school courses in other subjects
