HOCC: Mr. Battle

Sean Dometric Battle is a public safety high school teacher at SBHS and has been teaching for the past nine years. Each year he has taught, he has brought so much knowledge to students. Some may say he’s stern or hard on some students, but he says “it’s nothing but tough love.”

He always seems to go out of his way to give each student advice on anything especially when it comes to real life conversations.  He has even given advice to girls on what boys they should date.

Mr. Battle also expressed his childhood, how he was involved in an accident by being shot in a drive-by. He was being shot at because of the people he was with. Just a couple of his friends doing stupid stuff in his early teens. Being a stubborn young man, he did not learn from that lesson and kept going out with the same individual who got him shot in the first place.  “When I was in high school, I got shot in a drive-by hanging out with the wrong people. I was very upset at that. So, of course, retaliation, wantonness is there and I don’t think I would be sitting here talking to you if I would have retaliated for something that was done to me.” Although he was shot he kept moving forward and stayed determined to stay in the right path.

Although Mr. Battle does seem like a grumpy guy, he has a kind side deep down just like everyone. He is very close with his mother and father and keeps in touch with them no matter how busy he gets with school and family. He is known to be a family man and is very close with his mother.“My mother is most influential to me because she showed me and provided me with hard work, dedication. This is because I watched her my whole life and paid attention to her drive, her passion, her compassion, her intelligence and her strength,” he said.

His father also impacted him a lot and influenced him to be a good man. Sadly, his father passed away. “He was basically my hero. The one that provided for my family when I looked out for him and the one that coached me. The one that raised me, the one that was everything and now he is no longer here. Physically, I just think the world is not quite as good of a place without him being here,” Battle said.

When asked what is something that people would be surprised to learn about you? Something we may be surprised to learn about Mr. Battle is that he enjoys listening to classical music instrumentals like Mozart, Bach, Beethoven and I wish I would have learned how to play the piano” he said.

Mr. Battle did learn how to play but just became too busy to keep going to piano lessons.

Mr. Battle also expressed his childhood and his friends and how he was involved in an accident by being shot in a drive-by with a couple of friends in his early teens.
