Spring to Quarantine: a song from the heart

by Arely Ashley, Tyro Times Staff

2020-2021 was both a unique and challenging experience for students. Some of our SBHS journalists documented their thoughts, feelings, and experiences during the past 15 months. Here is 2020/2021 from a teen’s perspective.

Lyrics to “Spring to Quarantine”

We were headed off to spring break

It’s a full week off the teachers say

Momma told me they extended the week

Another week for spring break

Yippie

At least that’s what I thought

And then the thinking became too much

A pandemic hit the nations and I felt a sensation

That the world won’t be the same

Was it part of the govern’s game?

Quarantine took over the year and I heard stuff I didn’t want to hear.

Trapped in the house

Trapped in my thoughts

Nothing to do

Let’s go for a walk

They said in a few weeks it’d be lifted

Wear your masks, stay safe. . .

But the cases increased and my hope had decreased.

No I wasn’t at peace

No it wasn’t easy

All the stores are closed down, riots started around, and health care workers all around town

They said look for the symptoms

Be aware, be aware

They creep up on you after two weeks

Never knew a virus could spread so easily

That’s not pleasing at all.

No, not at all

Families losing loved ones

Nothing they could do would help

Many tragic stories to tell.

Days to weeks to months pass by.

Wear your masks, stay safe.

Online learning for the rest of the year.

And the school year after that.

Class of 2021

They didn’t really have fun

Senior year was taken from

No prom dress shopping (that sucks)

No activities or games

Get your work done and graduate.

My condolences everyone says

But it’s okay, just a tragic event

Wear your masks and stay safe

We were headed off to spring break

It’s a full week off the teachers say

Momma told me they extended the week

Another week for spring break
