Eleventh grader, and Mr. Cardinal contestant, Marcell Gibson describes himself as infeasible, chaotic and ambitious.

“I feel like the other contestants should be Mr. Cardinal,” he said humbly. He sees the quality of the other contestants and thinks that they are deserving of the title. He also says that he wishes to become more adventurous through this experience. “One of the things I’d like to get out of this is to become more adventurous and try new things.”

Marcell is a junior advocate at Options House and he is a part of ASB here at San Bernardino High. He says that his biggest influence in his life is his Godmother.

“She pushes me way harder than I thought anybody could push me while still spoiling me,” he said. He says that she taught him how to be polite, how to listen, and how to come out of his shell. Her help is what got him into ASB and running for Mr. Cardinal.

He wants to be remembered in life as someone who tried. “I want to be remembered as someone who, through all the challenges, tried,” Marcell said.

He is most proud of being alive. “Do you know how many people aren’t here right now? I could be another statistic but I’m not,” he said. “I’m here.”

His heart is fixed on the here and now and he is grateful for everything life has had to offer him and he would not have it any other way.

“If I won Mr. Cardinal, I would abuse my position so I could spread the word more about Option House because it is something that’s great and something that helps people and I really want to help people.”

Using his power as Mr. Cardinal, if he should win, Marcell would use it all for the good of his peers and those outside of the community.
