San Bernardino High School is proud to present their 14th annual Miss Cardinal City Pageant. Every year, senior ladies go head-to-head as they compete to win the title of Miss Cardinal. Contestant Jhunelyn Parafina, well-known as the Cardinal City Mayor at SBHS, is one of the contestants vying for the crown.
Parafina is very passionate about her education as well as taking on any other responsibilities that come her way, including those of Miss Cardinal should she win. This “bring it on” attitude is necessary as the winner of Miss Cardinal will be very involved, and not just at SBHS either. Miss Cardinal duties extend to the district and into the community as well.
Parafina has been involved with her school and community since her first year at SBHS. Not only is she our Cardinal City Mayor, but she currently serves on the Principal’s Advisory Committee, the Superintendent’s Advisory Committee, and is a Student Board Member. She also volunteers at Dignity Health San Bernardino Community Hospital and the California Theatre. She sees representing SBHS as Miss Cardinal as an excellent opportunity to continue her service to the school, district, and community.
Her pride in her school and community is evident in her actions and words. “My greatest achievement is being able to uphold the position as Cardinal City Mayor because my love and passion for my school is beyond anything,” she said.
Balancing her current priorities with those of Miss Cardinal would be a difficult task, but Parafina says she takes her responsibilities seriously. “I would put my priorities first. Education is my number one priority because education is above everything else. But between Miss Cardinal and Cardinal City Mayor – I would see what priority I would have to take that day,” she said.
Should she win, Parafina plans to also dedicate herself “to enhancing young women’s self-confidence.”
