So what exactly is Travel Club at SBHS? Well, the answer to that question is the opportunity for YOU as an SBHS student to travel to see different locations around the US and abroad. SBHS has several trips planned over the next several years:
June 2018: New York City: 5 days in Manhattan where we’ll climb the Empire State Building, visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central Park, watch Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, and MUCH, MUCH more!
March 2019: Hawaii: 8 days in Oahu and the Big Island where we’ll snorkel, visit Pearl Harbor, go to the Dole Plantation, visit the North Shore, go to the Polynesian Cultural center and climb a volcano – but wait there’s more!
June 2019: 11 days in Italy and Spain: We will be visiting Rome where you’ll visit the Coliseum, the St. Peters Basilica and the Sistine Chapel, head to Florence to see the original David Statue and the Florence Cathedral all the while eating some of the best cuisine, then head to the Leaning Tower of Pisa, take a ferry to Barcelona for some Tapas and Flamenco Dancing, and end in Madrid for a stop at the Prado Museum and a visit to the Royal Palace.
March 2020: London and Paris 12 days: Visit the Eiffel tower, the Louvre museum (home of the Mona Lisa), Notre Dame Cathedral, and you know a trip to Paris wouldn’t be complete without a trip to DISNEYLAND!!!! But hey, London is pretty awesome too! Big Ben, The London Eye, the Tower of London, and the British Museum are just some of the cool places we’ll visit. For those of you Harry Potter Fans, a Harry Potter tour and a trip to Oxford (yes, the UNIVERSITY) where they filmed scenes of the movie, will help you cross off your bucket list!
June 2020: Alaska! Experience the urban side of Alaska as you explore the city of Fairbanks, cruise down the pristine Chena River to visit a Chena Indian Village, try to spot a grizzly bear in Denali National Park, and travel to Anchorage to go on a glacier cruise.
January 2021: Washington DC. This will be a 5 day trip to Washington DC where we will participate in the next Presidential Inauguration, visit the Smithsonian museums, go see where George Washington lived, lay a wreath at the Tomb Of the Unknown (this will be pretty cool!), and visit our congressmen among a bunch of other things!
March 2021: Japan! Land of the Rising Sun: A visit to the sacred Sensoji Temple and grounds of the Imperial Palace balances the buzz of high-tech Tokyo. Soak up views of Mount Fuji, an ancient castle and colorful markets while en route to the giant Todai-ji Buddha and countless Kyoto temples. We’ll also be making a final stop in Hiroshima to visit the WWII site and memorial.
