Some students might not care or be involved with community activities but Karina feels otherwise about it. She participates in many organizations such as Link Crew – where she is the president, Big Brothers, Big Sisters, the Dual Immersion program, the Spanish Honors society, the Law & Society program, and Youth Court. So she is very involved and really cares about her community, and she said that that is actually one of the things that she loves to do, which is being in a lot of community club.

Many students on campus may not be aware of Youth Court. Can you explain it please? 

It is about a group of people who help students who are be careless or who aren’t doing that well. We help provide resources for them and discuss what they think they will need to be successful in school.

What is your favorite book?

A book called Emma. I love that book because it is about women being less than and not being treated right. I like comparing the opportunities that we have now to what women had then.

What is one of your most memorable experiences? 

I was visiting Mexico during the Christmas season. It was memorable because it’s the time where there is so much color and positivity in the air. It’s a reminder of how proud I am of my culture.

What is greatest achievement?

Overcoming my own insecurities. I realized who I am and what I am passionate about.

What do you hope to gain from Miss Cardinal? 

I would like to create fun memories and the ability to present myself in front of many people,. I also want to step out of my comfort zone a little bit.

What three words would you use to describe herself?

Empathetic, open-minded, and optimistic.

What is one of your ambitions in life?

I would love to one day run a nonprofit organization that helps third-world children from third-world countries find families here in the U.S.

Time goes by quickly so try hard to do your best and it will pay off in the long run. To the freshman, remember that even though you just got here,  know that what you do this year will still affect your future. So don’t worry or pay any mind on what is going on around you.
