Jessica Flores is a participant in the Miss Cardinal competition. Jessica is in several clubs and sports. She is also a very nice person and has good intentions to make an impact on SBHS.
Nathan Davidson: What made you want to run for Miss Cardinal?
Jessica Flores: I have a couple of friends who ran for Miss Cardinal and Mr. Cardinal. Micheal Torres, Raven, and a couple of other people and they were saying that it is a very positive experience and you will gain so much from it and I think that is so true. I would tell anyone to run for Miss or Mr. Cardinal because it is a really nice experience. It is really positive and it’s so nice for you to go out there and help people out.
Nathan Davidson: What do you think will be the impact you will make if you win as Miss Cardinal?
Jessica Flores: I am really social. I feel like I talk to a lot of people. I have a really small circle but I do talk to a lot of other people.I feel like that is something that I bring. Also, being compassionate is something that I do. I just want to bring a positive image to San Bernardino so, if I can do that, winning the crown, I hope that is what I do and at the end of my Miss Cardinal term I would have made a positive impact.
Nathan Davidson: What do you feel is the most important trait that you have?
Jessica Flores: I am a really compassionate person. I don’t think twice to help someone, I am very open to helping a lot of people and I think that is one of the biggest traits that I have. I am very compassionate; you can be the worst person in the world and I will still help you out and I think that is something really important and I also feel like that is a trait that the Miss Cardinal title should have.
Nathan Davidson: What do you like to do in your free time?
Jessica Flores: I don’t really have much free time. I am at school till about six or seven lately, but when I do have free time I really like to just spend time with my family. I am very big on spending time with my family. Even though sometimes we have Saturday meets and we are away, I like to come back home and spend time with my siblings and that’s how I spend my free time when I have it.
Nathan Davidson: What advice would you give someone going through a tough time?
Jessica Flores: Just go through it. Go through all the emotions. Go through it completely and feel everything. You are validated to feel whatever you are feeling and just feel it because you are gonna get through it. When you make it through the other side you are going to be like “oh I made it through.” It’s really nice to know that you struggled and you made it out better. Go through everything. Go through the process, go through the emotions. Go through everything and feel it so when you find yourself in a similar scenario you can always go back and say I made it before so why can’t I make it again.
Nathan Davidson: What do you like most about the school?
Jessica Flores: I like the programs. I am part of a lot of clubs on campus and sports. But I really like how you can get really close with the teachers, especially with the academies. Most of the teachers here on the campus you are cool with and teachers that you can really talk to and get to know. I feel like it is really important that there are connections with the teachers and that is something that they have here. Before I came here I went to a school in Los Angeles and it is nothing like it is here and I feel like that has a lot to do with the teachers, students and how many programs we have here on campus.
Nathan Davidson: What does success mean to you?
Jessica Flores: I have many definitions of success. One of the biggest definitions to me is to be happy in life and to make a positive impact and make positive impacts in people’s lives and making sure I help out as many people as possible and I am doing what I am supposed to do. I think that is something that translates to success. As long as I am happy with what I am doing. Another definition I have is when I get to a point where I am able to give back to the community financially.
Nathan Davidson: What is something that you are grateful for?
Jessica Flores: I am really grateful for the support I have from my parents.I think I have so much that I do and I have so much going on. My parents get me to all these things everyday. I am really grateful for them. They have done so much for me. They have put in so much work. Someone I look up to is my dad because my dad grew up in a difficult household with not a lot of support. To see that he is always there supporting me, it’s really nice to always see that he’s pushing me and always being there is really nice. So I really appreciate the support I get from my parents.
