My 7th period English teacher, Mrs. Luna, was asked a few questions based on the topic of this new school year with additional questions based on herself.

Jasmin Buenrostro: How long have you been a teacher at this school?
Chrisma LunaBarnum: I have been at San Bernardino High for 5 years.
JB: What made you want to become a teacher?
CL: I wanted to be the teacher I needed and wanted when I was in school. My teachers weren’t all amazing throughout my years in school, but I had a few wonderful elementary school teachers, which might explain why I give off elementary school teacher vibes. I had a few secondary teachers that I will always root for. They truly love their content, and that always made me excited to learn. I hope my students grow to like English! One last thing, three of my professors set high expectations, taught texts that were inclusive and relevant to my interests, and genuinely cared about me. I hope my students will say some of these things about me.
JB: How does your first day of teaching this year compare to your first day of teaching ever?
CL: I think the only thing that is different is that I am a lot more prepared with procedures and expectations.
JB: How does this year compare to the last so far?
CL: I don’t know what it is, but I think every teacher here is lucky to teach the students that attend this campus. All my kids, every year, remind me why I chose this profession.
JB: How does it feel having more new students?
CL: Great! I have so many students this year that are the younger siblings of my former babies, and it is such an honor and privilege.
JB: How do you feel about your new students so far?
CL: I love them! They are smart, kind, funny, and eager to learn, which is my favorite combination.
JB: How do you feel knowing that some of your previous students are graduating this year?
CL: Great! I am so proud of them! I am excited for the good they will do.
