Victoria Guerrero is the captain of the girls tennis team and is a musician, and likes to participate in the community.
Daniel Arzaga: What are some key elements it takes to be a captain of a team?
Victoria Guerrero: The team has to depend on you, they have to see that you are the role model and you have to set an example for the team. I try to uplift their spirits in games if they are losing, I motivate them to do better. I believe those are the true key elements a captain should have.
DA: When was a time you felt like you were a really good captain?
VG: I’ve been captain for the tennis team for two years now and I feel like this year I’m doing much better at being a captain than last year. I’m bringing in new people and communicating with them and making them feel more comfortable in this tennis team family.
DA: If you were not captain of the tennis team, who would you like to put as captain of the team?
VG:There are these two girls on the team and I feel like they would be good captains to the team because they are both very comitive to the team. One of them is really social and gets along very well with other people and is able to tell them, like, ‘come on guys we’ve got this’ and the other girl is very commanding and has that voice to tell them what to do, when to do it and I think those two would be perfect being captains.
DA: What is the most important personality trait that you have?
VG: The most important personality trait that I have is being caring because it sets a good example to someone when you first meet them.
DA: Why do you participate in school events?
VG: I participate because I feel like there’s something for me to do here and a need for me to be here and get along with the school and just not be bored at home doing nothing.
DA: If you could change anything about you what would it be?
VG: Something I’d change about myself is stepping out of my comfort zone and having a voice to speak to people.
DA: How has your experience been at San Bernardino high?
VG: It’s really nice. I try to stick with the good people, like the good kids here, and my experience has been pretty good so far.
DA: If you could change something about San Bernardino High, what would it be?
VG: I would change the schedule because it is confusing and the trash problem here.
DA: How do you handle school and everything else you do?
VG: I just get done with what needs to be done and then I relax.
DA: What are some activities that you do that are non-school related?
VG: I serve at a church community and I help elementary kids stay in touch with God and I’m in something that helps teens that are lost in their path.
DA: Why did you participate in Miss Cardinal?
VG: I participated because it is something out of my comfort zone and I feel like I get to speak on how I feel.
