2018-2019 Mr. Cardinal Contestant 14: Jeremy Barrios

What is your all-time favorite movie?

I don’t have one.

How about your top five?

I think it would be: 5) Clockwork Orange by Stanley Kubrick, 4) Chinatown by Roman Polanski, 3) Blade Runner 2049, the new one, by Denis Villeneuve, 2) Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction, and 1) Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds

Are there any other movies that you would recommend to others? One that you think deserves more credit than it gets?

A movie that would that I think deserves more credit is a movie called Drive, starring Ryan Gosling.

Who is your favorite director?

Quentin Tarantino

And why is that?

Because he doesn’t care what other people think or say…other people say “we have to cut this scene out because it cannot be shown in movie theaters” and he doesn’t care. He still believes that people should go to the movie theater and watch films. He isn’t a director who sold out his passion.

So what other things are you into?

I’m into Pink Floyd a lot. They’re the greatest band, in my opinion. I also love reading little things that involve pop culture. Anything that involves pop culture, I love it. For instance, that show American Horror Story? I don’t like it, but it references pop culture. I like that. That’s probably why Pulp Fiction is my second favorite movie of all time. Nothing but pop culture there.

Is there anything in particular about pop culture that you really love?

I just like that it can be referenced in everyday events.

You mentioned that you really like Pink Floyd. What’s your favorite song of theirs?

My favorite Pink Floyd song would actually have to be, “Have A Cigar.”

What would you say has been your best high school experience so far?

My best high school experience so far would actually be the first event that we did in Mr. Cardinal. We were all together and we were escorting people to their seats at the California Theatre and it was really fun. We got to hang out and I got to know people that I never knew before. Pretty cool high school experience. One for the books.

Why did you join Mr. Cardinal?

Can I be completely honest? I was peer pressured by friends. And I like wearing suits. I like dressing up. So, I can feel like someone from Reservoir Dogs.

So, do you have a hidden talent?

No, I wouldn’t say I do.

Okay, then what is something people may not know about you?

What’s something that people don’t know about me? It’s that I want to become a filmmaker.

What film-making college are you considering?

I don’t want to go to college for film, but if I were, I would say NYU because that’s where the best came from. You know, filmmakers like Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, and George Lucas.

What is your vision for the future of SBHS or for America?

My future vision for SBHS is for it to be more involved and caring in education than we are now. More kids who look forward to coming to this school and not just seeing their friends, you know? And getting more kids off to graduation.

Is there anything you’d like to say or want people to know?

Not really, no?

Come out and watch Jeremy compete for the crown of Mr. Cardinal on April 7th at the Sturges Center! Doors open at 5 pm and the show begins at 6 pm!
