SOS: SZA’s Romance Journey

“I moved on for the better, you moved on to whoever,” this is a lyric from a song by SZA called “Broken Clocks.” I think this is one of the best songs that she made, but the 3 songs that I will be talking about are “Snooze,” “Broken Clocks,” and “Nobody Gets Me.”

These songs may interest you if you are into R&B, neo-soul, hip-hop, etc. These 3 songs talk about being in love, heartbroken, and not knowing what to do after a break. While the song “Snooze” mainly talks about being in love and sticking with your partner and always being there for them, “Broken Clocks” mainly talks about being heartbroken and letting the ex go. In the song “Nobody Gets Me,” SZA talks about being stuck after breaking up with someone or kind of feeling attached, not knowing what to do.

The first song, “Snooze,” has a very emotional and deep connection to the artist because it shows how much she cared for that person. It also kind of tells us how much she would stick by her person and never let him fall. She talks about being in love, building a life with “the one.”

The next song, “Broken Clocks” also by SZA, is about letting go and moving on from a bad relationship.  This song also shows how much she cared for that person, but she also says it’s time to move on. She says, “Run fast from my day job, running fast from the way it was.” When SZA says this, it makes me think, Why is she running? Who is she running from? What happened to make her want to run? She put all of her frustration, anger, and sadness into this song; she’s telling us, her listeners, how she feels through the song.

The last song, “Nobody Gets Me”, she says,” I don’t want to see you with anyone but me? Nobody gets me like you. How am I supposed to let you go?” You can hear that it’s a hard time for her and she’s recovering, but you gotta go through the ugly before anything. She doesn’t want to let that person go; she wants to keep holding on.

“Snooze” came out on December 8, 2022, on her album, SOS. SZA loves R&B, Hip-hop, pop, and alternative music and wanted to make some of her own. She loved the theme or idea of obsessive love and devotion, even if the other person might not feel the same. The song “Snooze” was like an obsessive love song that a lot of people loved and could relate to. “Broken Clocks” is a single that SZA released on June 2, 2017, and was the 4th official single on January 9th, 2017.  She wrote this song as a tribute to the changing roles of mothers and women in society. “Nobody Gets Me” was released on December 9th, 2022, as part of her album, SOS. This song isn’t about her ex, who cheated on her in London, but is about her ex-fiancé and how he cheated on her.

Overall, these are all amazing songs that I would recommend to anyone who loves R&B, neo-soul, hip-hop, etc. 3rd place is “Nobody gets me” with 4 out of 10 because this song has a great beat to it it has a good rhythm but you cant be too sure on what message shes trying to give.  2nd place is “Broken Clocks” with a 6 out of 10. It has a soothing vibe and is great to listen to while taking a walk or doing homework. The 1st place song “Snooze” with a 10 out of 10. I feel like I can relate to this song because of how much it talks about love. A lot of people can relate to these songs in different ways. SZA loves to express herself in her songs, and the music she makes now helps her fans in a way nobody ever thought of.
