JQ: Why did you decide to compete in Miss Cardinal?
AL: My mom made me do it. I do find it a good way to put myself out there. I can gain talking skills in front of people and talking directly to people. This was also a better way for me to gain friendships or relationships with all the other people who are competing.
JQ: What makes you different from the other young women/men competing today? What makes you the best candidate to win Miss Cardinal?
AL: I honestly don’t think I am different from others. Everybody has their own perspective and takes on other people, but I don’t think there is a best. People do a good job in their own way.
JQ: If you could get one message out to the world, what would it be?
AL: “What comes around goes around.” Be the best version of yourself and to others. Treat people how you would like to be treated, that simple.
JQ: How do you handle disappointment?
AL: How I handle disappointment is that if it is out of my control, there is nothing I can do. It is not my fault.
JQ: What is your favorite thing about San Bernardino/SBHS?
AL: My waterpolo team. Being on that team has created amazing friendships and relationships.
JQ: Following up with your waterpolo team, how long have you been playing water polo for? What have been the best memories you have made throughout those years?
AL: I have been playing for 3 years. The best memories that have been made were during practice, cracking up jokes and making each other laugh.
JQ: Do you feel as if others in the school should play water polo? Why or why not?
AL: People should, it is a fun sport. If they do decide to play they have to be dedicated. I do suggest playing because it is a good way to meet new people.
JQ: Tell me about a time you have had your biggest accomplishment?
AL: I had gotten the first team all league patch in water polo. The league patch has created confidence in myself by earning that.
JQ: Where do you see yourself in five years?
AL: I still want to be in school in five years. I would like to achieve and get my masters and bachelor’s degree.
JQ: Do you have a teacher in this school that inspires you? If so, why and how do they inspire you?
AL: It would have to be Mrs. Bunn. She is a good artist, good teacher and overall a good person. She is the most fun to be around.
JQ: Who in your family inspires you the most and why?
AL: Well, my mom’s cousin inspires me the most. He had gone and finished school. He has a nice and stable job, along with a family, which is why I would like to do that as well and finish school.
JQ: Let’s talk about the stuff you enjoy. What made you start a jewelry business? What inspired you to?
AL: I had gotten gifted beads and that is what started my love for jewelry. It made me enjoy my business because I can be able to share my art with everyone.
JQ: Since you are a big Swiftie fan, have you ever been to her concerts? If not, would you like to attend one? Why or why not?
AL: No, I have never been to a Taylor Swift concert. I would like to experience her music live though.
JQ: What is one favorite Harry Styles song that has impacted your life? Explain.
AL: I think my favorite song by Harry Styles is “Fine Line.” It gives a message that everything will be okay. The song gives me peace.
JQ: What has been your most favorite movie so far in 2024, and why? What did you enjoy about it?
AL: I think so far it would have to be “It Ends With Us.” It spreads awareness about domestic abuse. I feel as if it gives a message that people should not be afraid to speak up.
