Emily Marquez, a senior from San Bernardino High School, was interviewed on who she is and why she should be voted for Miss Cardinal. She’s a very nice, genuine person. She’s the type of person to try new things and give everything a try even when nervous. She’s shy at first but a really nice talkative person. Emily has dreams of being an orthodontist and has a good music taste. She’s very good at giving advice and is the type of person to push someone to their fullest extent and has a good perspective on life.
AS: Why are you trying out to be Miss Cardinal?
EM: I’m trying to be Miss Cardinal because I’m not a really outgoing person, It’s really hard for me to try new things so getting to experience this will help me get more out there and it has so far.
As: Okay to start off, do you have any pets?
Em: Yes, I have five pets. I have a chameleon and four dogs.
AS: Oh, what kind of breed are your dogs?
EM: Two golden doodles and two labs.
AS: What is your opinion on social media?
EM:I think there are pros and cons on social media.
AS: Why do you think there’s pros and cons on social media?
EM: Like social media brings a lot of negativity, but it also benefits things like saying you want to sell stuff and that’s how you promote your business.
AS: Where in the world would you like to live?
EM: Oregon because I visited there once before and I think it’s really pretty. Like the scenery is just really pretty and it’s just really nice out there.
AS: What do you want your generation to be remembered for?
EM: I would love for it to be remembered as like the best class here because I feel like my classes like they are involved in a lot of things at the school and community.
AS: How would you recommend others to get involved, like the freshmans?
EM: I would say try out for anything, like any sport, Even if you’ve never played the sport before, just go for it, They’ll always teach you, Just go for anything. Like just don’t be shy – try something new because at the end of the day, I feel like when you’re a senior, you’ll regret not joining all that stuff.
AS: So how did you get into water polo?
EM: So I actually did swim my freshmen year because my friends did and like I guess swimming is also continuing on to water polo, I was, like, okay I will just try it because it sounded cool, so I tried it and I ended up liking it.
AS: Oh what is the Aquatics Council?
EM: It’s like this program where the people who show up to practice the most get specific spots. So, you know like ASB there, like vice president, president, secretary and all that. That’s how we have it here. So you have a president, vice president, secretary, which I am the secretary so I get to take photos, papers, and documents.
AS: What are some things you disagree with that other people agree with? Or like to put it another way like what are some things you don’t like that other people think it’s okay to do?
EM: What other people do that I don’t like is personally how they go to the bathroom specifically just to stand there and you know do things they’retheir not supposed to do. Like , when there’s people who actually want to go in there and use the restroom.
AS: If you could change one thing that is normalized about this generation what would it be?
EM: Fitting in. Yeah, I’d say to fit in because a lot of people like to see what people have specific things and then say oh like I want what they have. But don’t change yourself because of people like this and stuff. Like if you like it, you go for it and don’t change.
AS: Where do you see yourself in five years?
EM: I see myself in college, hopefully pursuing my career which is what I want to do.
AS: Would you like to tell me about what you want to study and what it’s about?
EM: I want to major in biology. I did my research because I want to be an orthodontist, right? I need biology. The two majors I need are chemistry and biology. Biology is what you need more to get into dental school.
AS: Do you personally believe friends can be more family than your own family? Why or why not?
EM: It depends on the situation. I’d say my family’s more important than friends, but it depends on the situation because a lot of people don’t have that support from their family and friends can bring that support that the family doesn’t bring. So yes, it depends on the situation.
