Two days before she would turn 105 years old, San Bernardino City unveiled a bronze statue of Rosa Parks inside the Rosa Parks State Memorial Building. This statue depicts her sitting on a bench, a symbol of her refusal to surrender her seat on the bus 63 years ago. On Friday, February 2nd our community celebrated and remembered her as one of the leaders of the civil rights movement.
The idea for the statue was ten years in the making. It was a collaboration of the Black Culture Foundation, Assemblywoman Eloise Gomez Reyes and Caltrans. As always, our Mr. and Miss Cardinal were representing San Bernardino High School at this event.
